2016 Ferrari 488 GTB is a 660-horsepower turbocharged monster
The glorious Ferrari 458 Italia is the car largely credited with giving Ferrari its mojo back after a few years of less-than-breathtaking cars, and now its successor has arrived. Meet the 488 GTB, a 660-horsepower twin-turbocharged "entry-level" Ferrari that raises the bar yet again.
The 488 GTB is the turbocharged successor to the stunning 458 Italia, and packs over 660-horsepower!
The phrase "entry-level" and the name Ferrari couldn't have less in common, but since this is the most affordable mid-engined sports car from Maranello, it's a fitting term.
Meet the 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB, the first turbocharged V-8 Ferrari since the immortal F40. With 660-horsepower from its 3.8-liter turbocharged V-8, the 488 is almost 40-percent more powerful than the F40, if almost 1,000-pounds heavier too.
With a 3.8-liter turbocharged V-8, the 488 GTB is the first mid-engined turbocharged V-8 Ferrari since the iconic F40.
But that's no matter for this prancing pony, as 60-mph comes in around 3 seconds. Someone may need to remind the folks at Ferrari what entry-level really means...
Inside, not much differs from the outgoing 458, but the expertly-crafted interior is something we're glad to see stick around.
The 488 will hit 125-mph in 8.3-seconds, a full 1-second faster than the 458 Italia it replaces, and onwards to a top speed of over 205-mph.
The 488 is also one second quicker around Ferrari's private test track than the 458 Speciale, and a two seconds faster than the base 458.
Styling is refined and smooth, but still distinctively Ferrari. The 488 looks very similar to the 458 it replaces, both inside and out, and considering the fact that the 458 is one of the most striking cars of the last 20 years, we'd say that's a good thing.
The 488 GTB will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, and the first cars should roll out of the factory by the end of the year or the beginning of next year.
